Have you recently purchased a PSN Prepaid card, or generated one with PSN hero, but are unsure of how to use it? First off, it is recommended that these cards are purchased from reputable retailers such as your local game stores. From here, redemption is a relatively easy process. Now, there are several ways to redeem your cards, so let’s get started shall we?
First off, we will visit the account management website. For this you simply log into your PSN id, and click on your gamer tag located at the top of the page. From here, click on account settings and sign in again. While this may seem redundant, it’s actually to ensure not only the validity of the account, but also to ensure the funds are credited to the proper account. Finally, you need to select “Redeem Prepaid Card” from there, or go to the account tab and choose the option from there. While this is a great choice, remember, it isn’t the only one.
Let’s say you want to enter the code directly from your console. For this to happen, you need to first go to your home screen. From here, scroll to the PlayStation store, followed by clicking on your ‘Online Id’ and then account settings. Again, its a relatively easy process to enter your redemption code through this method.
Now, the really great thing about the redeemable codes, is that you aren’t required to have a credit card on file to purchase content. This is especially great if you have kids with sub accounts, because it allows you to set spending limits for the account. For example, with a credit card the child could go on a major game spree, and you would be footing the bill. With prepaid cards, you can only use the balance available, no over charging.
As with all things, there are some things you should probably keep in mind when using the cards. For example, if you have to scratch off a silver panel to access the code, this should be done carefully. If the combination of letters and numbers are damaged, your card may be unusable. Also, the cards can not be redeemed via sub accounts. Remember earlier? If you do decide to use this method to fund your child’s account, the code must be entered onto the master account, which in turn funds the sub account. Finally, codes are only capable of being used once.
